1st of 2015 – Bald Eagle Sighting

My son and husband were out walking the dog and spotted a bald eagle flying around over the bay by our home on February 6, 2015.  Needless to say, they were very excited!  They ran in to get the rest of us, but it was too late.  The eagle had soared away, too busy to wait for the us slow pokes.  Hopefully, in the next few weeks, we will see him again and I can put a picture on here for you.

1st of the year 2015- First Daffodil

After reading about Charlotte Mason’s ‘Calendar of Firsts’ in Laurie Bestvater’s book “The Living Page” I was encouraged to start keeping my own little online journal of “Firsts” throughout the year.

Quoting from Bestvater’s book pages 26 & 27:

“Also associated with the Nature Notebook is what Mason refers to as “a Calendar of Firsts.”

It is a capital plan for children to keep a calendar – the first oak leaf, the first tadpole, the first cowslip, the first catkin, the first ripe blackberries, where seen and when.  The next year they will know when and where to look out for their favorites, and will, every year, be in a condition to add new observations.  Think of the zest and interest, the object, which such a practice will give to daily walks and little excursions.  There is hardly a day when some friend may not be expected to hold a first “At Home.” “

What a great idea!   So, in the spirit of the Calendar of Firsts, I present my first 1st of the year 2015 – First Daffodil.

As seen on in Okaloosa County, Florida on January 31, 2015:

Do you have a Calendar of Firsts?  What was your first for this year?

May God Bless You on your walk!
